The Northwest Energy Technology Showcase (NETS) 2005 Company/Product BACKGROUNDER

ADI Thermal Power Corp. (Stirling Engine Technology)
ADI Thermal Power Corp. (ADI) has developed a revolutionary Stirling engine power generation system that achieves an efficiency of up to 50% with a dramatically reduced cost for production and can be used in a variety of applications ranging from large portable generators to distributed power to hybrid automobiles.

Efficient - ADI’s advanced dual shell Stirling design allows the engine to operate at significantly higher temperatures, up to 3000F, without resorting to ceramic materials in the pressure shells. The engine is attached to a commercial, high efficiency, three-phase electric generator and is rated to produce 25 kilowatts (kW) at 480 Volts and 60 Hz. Using a direct drive connection, the system runs at 1200-1800 RPM nominal and is designed to grow into inline two and four cylinder packages which generate 50 and 100 kW respectively.

Competitive - The manufacturing and assembly process for the ADI Stirling engine system has been simplified by using a proprietary diffusion bonding process in the heather head. As a result this advanced system is extremely competitive and inexpensive to manufacture when compared to fuel cells (identical efficiency and 1/4 the cost) and micro-turbines (twice the efficiency and less cost).

First American Scientific Corp. (The Cutting Edge of Biomass Power Production)
The KDS Micronex™ fuel processor significantly enhances the economics and reduces the environmental impacts for biomass power plants by transforming a wide range of low value forestry, agricultural, and organic wastes and sludges into clean burning dry powdered fuel. The innovative KDS processor pulverizes the biomass into dust and mechanically shears water from the particles. The fine powdered fuel burns in specialized burners with the characteristics of a liquid fuel and in some applications can replace oil or natural gas burners or can be co-fired with coal. Because the KDS uses only mechanical energy for both grinding and drying, it uses one-third of the energy of a conventional grinding and drying system. A power plant burning KDS-produced fuel has reduced capital and operating costs, reduced emissions, and can accept diversified fuel sources.

First American Scientific Corporation is a public company with offices near Vancouver, Canada. (OTCBB-FASC). Founded in 1995, FASC has installations in North America, Asia, and Europe. FASC recent projects include: a 14 MW biomass power plant in Malaysia, a replacement of oil and gas dryers at a particle board plant in New Brunswick and a demonstration machine at the second largest newsprint recycling mill in the United Kingdom. www.fasc.net

Hydrogen Power Inc. (Innovative Process of Producing Hydrogen)
Hydrogen Power Inc’s hydrogen generation technonogies operate at safe pressures and temperatures. With several worldwide patents in place, HPI’s product development lab in Seattle, Washington, has applied their scaleable on-demand technology in the development of several prototype applications. HPI’s water split method is capable of producing hydrogen at ambient pressure as well as at high pressures in excess of 5000 psig. Hydrogen Just in Time TM technology is cost effective and generates pressurized hydrogen on-site, on-demand, and eliminates the use of energy intensive compressors or liquefaction processes.

Fueling portable or stationary generators for off-the-grid use for back-up or immediate power needs, Hydrogen Now TM can be delivered by any of several methods, including our on-demand continuous Hydrogen Now TM reactor, or batch processing using aluminum fuel cartridges. HPI can tailor production to meet product requirements, adjusting for pressure, temperature and H2 flow rate. From pure high-pressure hydrogen without compression in minutes in the Hydrogen Now TM Fueling Station to low-pressure time-released hydrogen in demanding battery applications, this portable, adaptive, no-emissions method of H2 generation fuels multiple industry needs while sidestepping the usual problems with on-site storage, transportation or compression. www.hydrogenpowerinc.com

Novus Power Corp. (Electric Motor Technology)
Novus Power Corp. is a leading edge energy technology company that has negotiated the exclusive worldwide rights to a patented breakthrough motor technology. The NOVUS POWER motors’ unique design will make it the first motor design on the market that has devised a method to successfully harness, channel and direct energy from the flux paths of permanent rare earth super magnets. The method successfully incorporates and channels the permanent magnet lines of flux with those of the electromagnets in the motor, increasing efficiencies and power density.

Through this method of doubling the lines of flux, a squaring of the force is attained, and an enormous increase in power density and efficiency is achieved over conventional motors. This method effectively produces 4 times more force-output to watt-input than conventional designs. As well, overall efficiency is increased significantly over the current premium efficiency motors.

The design allows for smaller, lighter, more powerful electric motors that operate cool under maximum load. Current operational motor prototypes have been independently tested and verified to have superior weight to torque, volume to torque, heat to torque and overall efficiency than any other electric motor design on the market. The motor is scalable from fractional HP to large HP models. www.novuspower.com

Prometheus Energy Company (Processing Methane into High-Purity Liquid Natural Gas)
Prometheus Energy Company is an alternative fuel company specializing in the production, sale and distribution of liquid natural gas (LNG). LNG is a clean-burning, less expensive and safe alternative to diesel fuel. Using our proprietary and patented technology, we process methane from waste or low-quality sources such as landfills, stranded gas wells, anaerobic digesters and coal mines. Following a distributed-scale approach, our integrated liquefaction systems produce LNG close to end-users, which allows us to sell vehicle fuel at long-term, fixed prices below that of gasoline and diesel.

Prometheus currently occupies a 23,000 square foot engineering, advanced development and operations facility in Seattle, Washington. Our current projects, the first of which will come online by the first quarter of 2006, will produce in excess of 50,000 gallons of LNG per day to be sold into the domestic vehicle fuels market displacing foreign oil. The compelling economic, environmental and health benefits of using LNG as a diesel alternative will continue to be a catalyst for growth of the LNG transportation market. Prometheus is well positioned to be the leader of this rapidly growing alternative fuel market. www.prometheus-energy.com
